Israel
Summary
Israel is one of the least digitally dependent countries in our dataset. Its DDI value dropped from 0.50 in 2010 to a historic low of 0.40 in 2023. Although the country relies heavily on platforms and ICT patents (0.98 and 0.99, respectively), it stands out for its autonomy in trading ICT goods and services (0.41 and 0.12, respectively). In terms of its relations with technopoles, Israel is one of the least dependent countries when it comes to bilateral trade in ICT goods. Over the last decade, however, there has been a shift away from the US (falling to 0.24 in 2023) and towards China (rising to 0.75 in 2023).
Policies
Two policies represent Israel's priorities in the digital sector in the past years: The updated ”National AI Program” launched in 2026 that includes plans for a national quantum computing project called “Project Nexus”. Israel’s government also updated its “National Cyber Security Strategy” in 2025 and wants to invest more in sovereign cloud infrastructure.
