Czechia
Summary
The overall DDI score places the Czech Republic at a medium level of digital dependence and points to a slight decline from 0.67 in 2010 to 0.62 to 2023. Although Czechia shows a comprehensive dependence in the area of patents (each year: 1.00) and an extremely high one on platforms (average 0.95), the country has managed to reduce its reliance on trade in ICT goods from 0.45 in 2010 to 0.42 in 2023 as well as in ICT services from 0.49 in 2010 to 0.36 in 2023. A decreasing trend is also especially evident in its bilateral dependence on U.S. ICT goods from 0.93 in 2010 to 0.48 in 2023.
Policies
Two fields are on the main focus of Czechia’s dependence-related policies between 2020 and 2026: Firstly, the production of semiconductors crucial for manufacturing firms in the country, which is addressed in the 2024 “National Semiconductor Strategy”. Secondly, the new “National Cyber Security Strategy” approved in 2025, which aims to strengthen the resilience of Czechia’s strategic infrastructure by enhancing the ability to detect and counter cyber threats.
